At the Center for Inquiry, we believe that evidence-based reasoning, in which humans work together to address common concerns, is critical for modern world civilization.

Moreover, unlike many other institutions, we maintain that scientific methods and reasoning should be utilized in examining all claims, including pseudoscience and religion. We reject mysticism and blind faith. No topic should be placed off limits to intellectual scrutiny—certainly not fringe science and religion, which have an enormous influence on beliefs and conduct. In aiming to foster a secular society, we do not seek to abridge the rights of believers. We vigorously object to government support of religion and the use of religious dogma to justify public policy; we do not oppose the free exercise of religion. The secular society we are building is a community of reason and compassion in which the dignity and fundamental rights of all individuals are respected. Topics addressed include science, religion, philosophy, social issues, politics, atheism, humanism, agnosticism, skepticism, deism, evolution, morality and ethics, secularism, rationalism, psychology, and others. Keywords: atheism, humanism, agnosticism, skepticism, deism, , science, religion, philosophy, social issues, politics, evolution, morality and ethics, secularism, rationalism, psychology, evolution, secular humanism, atheist, humanist, agnostic, freethinker, freethought, atheists, freethinkers, humanists, agnostics, deists, religion, separation of church and state, skeptics, secular humanists, naturalist, naturalists, science, scientist, CFI, MSU, CFI On Campus, Center for Inquiry On Campus, E. Hey Freethinkers,

It is almost the end of the term. That means everything is due, tests are upon us, and everything is a bit hectic. So what say you to this: we just go relax and get something to to eat? I'm thinking about this nice place a little south of Lansing called "Eagle Monk". It's a nice place, and fitting for our last meeting of the term. We will assemble, eat, drink, and take it easy at 7 pm this Thursday.

My Fellow Freethinkers,

The year will be soon over, and everybody be busy. It is therefore time for an adventure. This week, we will be exploring a new frontier, across campus. We will be attending a panel in Case Hall's JMC Library at 7:00 pm this Thursday, a panel called "Around the World in 80 Minutes: Nationalism." Four professors will discuss and debate and take questions, and I expect ours will be several of those. Food and bevs after, location to be determined.

Hey Freethinkers,

I am off on a voyage of discovery and adventure, and will be unable to come to 103 Berkey at 7:30 this Thursday. Y'all are lucky that you can, because you get to hear all about the Civilian Conservation Corp from our own JB. Those fine fellows almost 80 years ago did some great work here in Michigan and across the nation, some of which you may have used without even knowing it. And now you get to learn all about it without me... I'm a little jealous. Have fun Thursday, food and bevs to follow.

Hey Freethinkers,

Around this time last year, I had a discussion with some folks about traditions. They had been asked what they do for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and all the rest, given that they are irreligious. I had an answer, but what about you guys? What kind of traditions do you observe holidays? Come on down to 103 Berkey at 7:30 this Thursday, and join our little panel discussion. Maybe we'll all have some warm fuzzy feelings and then head out for some food and bevs later.

Hey Freethinkers,

This is an Facebook post. You need internet to read it. But what if you didnt have internet? You wouldnt be able to read this Facebook post, now would you? You wouldnt be able to learn that this Thursday, in 103 Berkey at 7pm, Reidar will be sharing the fruits of many, many moons of research into expanding internet access. For you see, almost 40 million Americans dont have any internet access, and cannot dive into the wondrous, frightening, and exciting frontier that is the World Wide Web. Afterwards, we will adjourn to a local eatery so we might sample their food and drink. Hope to see everybody there!

Hey Freethinkers,

It's that time oh year again. The one with all the orange and black decorations and candy and people dressing up their kids, pets, and selves. You know, the spooky, scary one. Last year we talked about the Satanic Panic, but this year, JB has upped the ante and found a police training video of how to deal with the Satanists who where apparently everywhere back then. I have been assured that it is absolutely, hilarious, so we'll be gathering in 103 Berkey this Thursday, at 7:30pm, to learn how to best protect ourselves from the villains of the Dragnet movie that Dan Akroyd was in.

10/17/2017

Hey Freethinkers,

Its been a busy year in politics, as I'm sure you know. But how much is just people trying to whip up a story and how much do people actually know what they are talking about? So we'll be having a little talk about the legislative process, focusing on our own little Michigan Capital, just a few miles down the road from us at our usual meeting at 103 Berkey, 7:30 pm. Food and bevs to follow.

Oh My Dear Skeptics,

Its been a long week or two. Papers and tests and work have created no small amount of stress in us all. So what better way to de-stress than by coming to 103 Berkey at 7:30 this Thursday and watching a movie? Not just any movie, though; since we are now into October, it'll spooooooky movie. We shall watch this frightening (or frighteningly bad) movie, the title of which only the ghost in the Email Lady's pantry knows, and then head out for some food and bevs.

Hey Skeptics,

If you can read this, that means North Korea hasn't blown up the world or started a nuclear winter! That's some good news, right there. But will they do it tomorrow? The day after? If we aren't scavenging for iodine tablets by Thursday, stop by 103 Berkey at 7:30, where we'll be talking all about those nutty North Koreans. What will they do? What will we do? What will China do? How does Kim Jong-Il keep his hair looking like that all the time? Why didn't I make the subject line of this email an Elton John joke? The answer to that last one is that it would be too easy, but for the rest of the answers, come on down and stay a while. We'll have some food and bevs after.
