Hi everyone, as you may already know, Sri Lanka has recently experienced very heavy rain which has led to flooding and landslides all around the country. With so many people being affected there are numerous methods to make donations. We at the SLSA of MSU will not be collecting donations, but instead we want to point you toward official donation channels, where we know the money is being used to help and support those affected by the floods. If you can, please consider donating, every little bit can help rebuild the country and help those in need.

We had a great time meeting everyone who came to our booth and sharing our culture and introducing our beautiful island to everyone. We would like to thank all those who visited and everyone who help set up and man the booth.

Swipe through our year with us.

From the Welcome Potluck in October 2024 to a packed Padura in October 2025, we hosted and joined community events that celebrated Sri Lankan culture, built new collaborations, raised funds for future programs, and grew our online family in a big way. Highlights include:

1. Global Festival booth and traditional dance with MSU Office for International Students and Scholars

2. The Women of Color Community Conference, where we highlighted the impact of Sri Lankan women

3. Spring Seasonal Showcase with MSU Residential Halls Association

4. South & Southeast Asian New Year with Asian Studies Center at Michigan State University alongside Nepalese Student Association at Michigan State University, MSU Thai Club and Lao American Community of Michigan

5. Michigan Sri Lankan New Year

6. Our own SLSA New Year filled with games, dance, and food

7. Tamasha performances with Colombo University Faculty of Science Alumni Association-North America

8. Padura with support from Asian Studies Center at Michigan State University and MSU Visiting International Professional Program.

To every volunteer, performer, donor, partner, and friend who showed up - thank you for turning our ideas into memories.

SLSA successfully hosted Padura 2025, a vibrant Sri Lankan musical night, on October 11th at the Trappers Cove Club House.

It was a colourful evening filled with music, laughter, and community spirit, with students, families, and friends coming together to sing both classical and contemporary Sri Lankan songs, savour delicious Sri Lankan food, and celebrate our shared culture.

We are grateful to everyone who made this event possible — those who joined in, helped with decorations and setup, contributed to the potluck, and supported our fundraiser.

Special appreciation goes to our amazing music crew for their dedication and countless hours of practice leading up to the event. You truly made the night shine!

The song and dance item performed at Tamasha 2025 by our talented dancers, Anuki Nethma Wethalawe, Yohara Ranasinghe, Amaya Sirinimal and Oshi Rathnayaka.

It is a melody of popular Sri Lankan songs that demonstrates the evolution of music over a period of 6 decades.
