In the summer of 2003 ten men decided to establish a fraternity on the campus of Michigan State University: Mitchell Carrol, Brandon Wilkes, Hao Luong, Nelson Franco, Brian Lee, Duc Ho, Benjamin Yu, Young Kim, Barna Lumpki

n Jr, and Daniel Yoo. During the search for the proper fraternity to expand at Michigan State University, these men happened upon Pi Alpha Phi, chosen because it focused on Academic Excellence, Asian Awareness, Brotherhood, Leadership, and Philanthropy. Since there were very few Greek Organizations that promoted Asian Awareness, these men concluded that Pi Alpha Phi would be a great addition to an already strong Asian community on the campus of Michigan State. As a result, these men formed bonds that surpassed friendship.
