Did you know that Michigan is the #1 pickling cucumber producing state in the US? The Michigan State University IAT Glen Oaks Community College students learned that and much more during their visit to Hartung Brothers, Inc. this week. Their classmate, Zachary Pueschel, was a summer intern at the Sturgis location and was able to talk about his work. A big thank you to Nathan Hughes for the informative tour and allowing the students to experience a day in the life of a cucumber producer.

Our final intern is Jack Ruden. Jack worked for BlackGold Farms and enjoyed his time there. He said:

"I did a lot of different things throughout the season. We did planter efficiencies, scouted, yield digs and much more. My favorite thing I learned about potatoes was how specific varieties vary. Most in the ag industry knows there are different varieties of every type of plant. But it was cool to see, in person, the actual differences in how one grows different opposed to the other."

He will continue studying for his Ag Operations Certificate from MSU and his Agriscience Associates from Glen Oaks this fall.

Great job, Jack and Go Green!
