On Tuesday, March 10, 2026, join Pulitzer Prize–winning author Cristina Rivera Garza for an intimate conversation about the themes and creative process behind her celebrated book Liliana’s Invincible Summer. In this student-centered session, Rivera Garza will share insights into how she approached reconstructing her sister’s life through writing, and how literature can open spaces for empathy, memory, and transformation.

Students will have the opportunity to ask questions, reflect on their own relationships to storytelling, and consider how writing can become a practice of both personal healing and social engagement.

Come ready for an open and inspiring dialogue with one of the most powerful voices in contemporary Latin American literature.

Next Monday (March 9, 2026), Mexican author Cristina Rivera Garza will visit MSU for a reading and discussions of her Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Liliana’s Invincible Summer.

On Monday, March 9th, 2026, join us for an evening with Pulitzer Prize–winning author Cristina Rivera Garza, who will speak about her celebrated book Liliana’s Invincible Summer. Blending journalism, memoir, and poetic prose, Rivera Garza reconstructs the life of her younger sister, Liliana, a bold, curious, and hopeful young woman pursuing her independence and passions in a world that often sought to limit her. Through the act of writing, Rivera Garza aims to recover Liliana’s voice, imagine the life and contributions she might have made, and ensure that her memory continues to live and inspire.

Her reading and reflections invite us to consider the possibilities of storytelling as a space for remembrance, imagination, and collective care.

After a reading from her book, Rivera Garza will be joined by a panel of faculty for a conversation, followed by an audience Q&A. A reception will conclude the evening, offering an opportunity to continue the dialogue and meet the author.
