Last week, the UWEC Forensics competed at the Asynchronous Speech Championships online national tournament. The team earned 15 different individual and team recognitions at the tournament, including a national championship.

Senior Austyn Clemen (Communication & Sociology major!) was named the national champion in Persuasive Speaking, a category of speaking dedicated to advocacy for change on a student's issue of choice. UWEC Forensics last had a national champion in 2011.

In addition to Persuasive Speaking, Austyn earned 2nd place in Extemporaneous Speaking and 6th in Impromptu Speaking. They also advanced their Communication Analysis and Afterdinner speeches to semifinals (top 12 in the nation). This strong showing across multiple categories earned them a recognition as the 5th best overall competitor at the tournament.

The team placed 9th overall out of 49 colleges/universities competing at this tournament. The team will next send four team members, including Austyn, to compete at the American Forensic Association National Speech Tournament, hosted at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, OR.

Congratulations Austyn and good luck moving forward!!
