Dear Campus Community:

We are writing to inform you that a water leak under the Texas Southmost College cooling plant is affecting the chilled water supply to portions of the north side of the Brownsville Campus.

Currently, the outage is affecting the following buildings, which may have limited or no air conditioning until the issue is resolved:

Student Union

Life and Health Sciences Building

Biomedical Research and Health Building (Vivarium and the IT Data Room are operational)

All other Brownsville Campus buildings are not affected.

Facilities teams continue to assess the situation and identify temporary cooling options where possible. At this time, we do not yet know how this outage may affect campus operations beginning Monday. We will provide additional information as it becomes available.

The University of Texas System Board of Regents has officially approved the design development plans and a $42.3 million funding package to transform a former Harlingen retail center into a state-of-the-art academic facility for the UTRGV Departments of Physical and Occupational Therapy.

Located in Harlingen at 2222 S. 77 Sunshine Strip, the single-story building will feature highly specialized teaching and research environments tailored to advanced healthcare education.

The project is expected to be completed in spring 2027.
