⭐Faculty Friday Spotlight⭐

Dr. James Jupp, Chair in the Department of Teaching and Learning and Program Director for the Curriculum and Instruction (Ed.D.), has been a valued member of UTRGV since 2017. His research focuses on decolonial pedagogies, culturally sustaining education, and critical place-based learning that supports the Rio Grande Valley community.

Through collaborations with faculty, graduate students, and community leaders, Dr. Jupp explores ways to challenge traditional curriculum standards while promoting bilingual, bicultural, and biliterate education aligned with UTRGV’s B3 initiatives. His work is inspired by influential scholars such as Gloria Anzaldúa, Américo Paredes, and Rolando Hinojosa, emphasizing the importance of local knowledge, language, and identity in education.

Dr. Jupp has authored numerous publications on curriculum theory, decolonial practices, and translanguaging traditions in the Rio Grande Valley. Looking ahead, he plans to continue publishing research and developing new book projects. He encourages faculty and graduate students to remain committed to their ideas, noting that thoughtful critique is an important part of meaningful research and growth.
