On March 21-22 the SIUE Cougar Rockets successfully competed in the 2026 Argonia Cup against 21 other universities, securing a third-place finish. Organized by the Kloudbusters and held in Argonia, Kansas, the competition challenges collegiate teams to design, build, and launch high-performance two-stage rockets. These rockets must carry a payload of golf balls to altitudes between 9,000 and 40,000 feet while successfully executing stage separation, sustainer ignition, and safe recovery. The team’s qualifying flight reached 21,905 feet AGL, carrying 14 golf balls, and achieved a peak speed of 817 miles per hour, meeting all mission requirements. This marks the Cougar Rockets’ second consecutive year competing in the Argonia Cup, highlighting their continued growth and dedication. The team’s third-place finish secured a prize package that included a cash award, an engraved trophy motor casing, flight computers, a high-power model rocket kit, and gift cards.
