Founded in 2004, the SIUE Solar Car Team has continuously been striving to build a better, faster, and more efficient solar car. Through engineering and business students alike, the team is comprised of like-minded and innovative individuals seeking to design and race solar-powered electric vehicles. The SIUE Solar Car Team has participat

ed in four racing events. In the 2015 Formula Sun Grand Prix, our solar car drove over 225 miles on the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. We are currently building a new car, to compete in the 2023 Electrek Formula Sun Grand Prix. Through donations and sponsorships, we are able to research new technologies, develop engineering fabrication and design skills, and most importantly, build a solar car. The SIUE Solar Car Team is conducting ongoing research in fabrication, electric motor efficiency and speed testing. Competing in competitions such as the Formula Sun, allows us to showcase all of our hard work. PUBLIC OUTREACH
Our solar car team participates in a number of public and community outreach events. These events allow us to share our knowledge of solar power and emerging technologies to children, young adults, and the general public. These opportunities also allow us to promote our amazing sponsors.

The past three weeks have flown by, but our progress hasn’t slowed for a moment! We laid the first layers of fiberglass on our aeroshell canopy mold, squeezed in driving practice, showcased our new composite seat and battery during senior design presentations, visited our top sponsor, Ameren Illinois, and kicked off solar cell encapsulation, all amid finals and graduation season.

A tough act to follow in the weeks ahead!

Our final senior spotlight of the semester is Henry!

In his short time on the team, Henry has made an incredible impact and leaves behind some very big shoes to fill for the next president. Over the past year, he devoted countless hours to strengthening the team, whether that meant securing sponsorships or machining components. Henry played a key role in building the team into what it is today by improving our organization, encouraging member involvement, and helping oversee the mechanical subteam. Without his dedication, we wouldn’t have been nearly as prepared for race season. While we’re sad to see him go, we’re excited to see what projects and challenges he takes on next!

Thank you to all who helped use reach our fundraising goal for this year’s One Day, One SIUE annual day of giving! We had a great night engaging with the community and displaying our car. We are excited for our continued progress! Roll Cougs!

Today is the final day of our Adopt‑A‑Cell Fundraiser! Thanks to your overwhelming generosity, we were able to raise our goal.

The senior spotlight this week is Max!

Over his five years on the team, Max has made a lasting impact on both the mechanical and electrical sub-teams. This past year, he took on the design of our new battery as his senior design project and simultaneously helped create the electrical design of the car’s systems. We’re excited to see what he accomplishes after graduation!

This week's Senior Spotlight is Darragh!

Through the past four years, Darragh has been a vital member of the team. This year, Darragh has stepped up by managing our social media, organizing our workspace, and helping plan our trip to FSGP this summer. Her impact on the team will last long after her graduation.
