One of SIUE Alumni Association’s favorite traditions at the pre-commencement “Always a Cougar” celebration is having graduates decorate their caps.

While we may not be able to celebrate in person this year, we still wanted to give you a chance to decorate your cap—even if it’s virtually! https://bit.ly/34g24vS

On Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2020, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker announced that as of Friday, Nov. 20, 2020 at 12:01 a.m., additional mitigations have been implemented for Region 4 under Restore Illinois. The mitigation guidance currently outlines a 14-day monitoring period that would extend through Friday, Dec. 4.

We appreciate the continued commitment of the SIUE community to help stop the spread of COVID-19. We want our students, employees, community and region to remain healthy. We know that these last 8 months have been exhausting, isolating and frustrating. Given recent spikes in COVID-19 cases, your commitment to protecting yourself, your bubble, and your community is critical.

In response to the announcement, SIUE will again pivot its operations. Learn more: https://bit.ly/3kKx8JB.

We will provide additional guidance to campus the week of Nov. 30.

Be safe and stay well.

Randy Pembrook, Chancellor
Denise Cobb, Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
Rachel Stack, Vice Chancellor for Advancement
Morris Taylor, Vice Chancellor for Administration
Jeffrey Waple, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs

We have learned that an SIUE student has tested positive for COVID-19. The individual is currently recovering in isolation at their off-campus residence.

Typically, most people with COVID-19 infection develop mild to moderate illness without the need for medical care. Older people and people of all ages with severe underlying health conditions seem to be at higher risk for developing more serious symptoms and conditions as a result of COVID-19. We encourage all members of our community to take this seriously and to continue to practice physical distancing to promote the health and well-being of all.

Specific information about the person’s illness will not be released in respect for their privacy in accordance with HIPAA. SIUE Health Service is in touch with the student and is prepared to assist in any way possible. We wish our student a quick and full recovery.

The Madison County Health Department is in the process of identifying all close contacts of the individual with COVID-19. “Close contacts” has a specific health meaning in this context, and the Health Department is providing them with the necessary quarantine instructions. Please note that if the Health Department or SIUE Health Service does not notify you, no action is needed at this time.

Please continue to follow Governor J.B. Pritzker's Stay-at-Home order to help control the spread of COVID-19. Be well. Stay healthy.
