Happy Friday! Today, we recognize Noah Poole, one of our Spring 2020 graduates. He is passionate about the study of law, and upon graduation, is headed to Marquette University to study sports law. He is smart, engaged, highly interested in politics, and thoughtfully considers all sides of issues. He is also passionate about the United States of America, as he participated in placing flags on the SIUE Quad to honor those who perished on September 11, 2001. He has also worked in the political process, as well. His high quality work was recognized through the Pi Sigma Alpha Award for Excellence in 2020. Congratulations, Noah! We look forward to hearing of all of the excellent things things that you will do! You have a bright future ahead of you!

Hope that your weekend is going well! We recognize another of our Spring 2020 graduates, Myles Nelson. During his time at SIUE, he has helped shape a changing world. He has been very engaged with the political office, has run for city council in Collinsville, and has helped enhance free speech for students at SIUE. These political experiences have served him well, as he is currently the campaign manager for Mike Bost's congressional campaign. Beyond practical politics, he has presented high quality research at the Illinois State University Conference for Students of Political Science. His professors note that he is passionate about politics, and one stated that they would not be surprised if an SIUE student were running his campaign for political office someday! Congratulations, Myles! We look forward to hearing ab out the many wonderful things that you will do!

Want to learn about how presidential campaigns operate from start to finish, and to work in teams to try to turn around a losing one?

Dr. Rice is offering POLS 449 (Presidential Camapaigns) in which you learn how to do just that! We will focus on presidential campaigns in the television and internet era. We will cover every phase of modern presidential campaigns from first testing the waters as a potential candidate to winning the general election. We will also trace the changing nature of primary elections, campaign advertising, and successful campaign strategies. In the process, we will examine past presidential campaigns as case studies in what to do and what not to do when running for president. We will also follow the 2020 presidential primaries as they unfold and discuss their results in light of what we are learning.
