🌟 On Wednesday, August 19, 2026, UTEP’s College of Education and EPCC were excited to host the Moody Foundation Rural M-Pact Fund Retreat with partner district leaders from Anthony ISD, Fabens ISD, Fort Davis ISD, Fort Hancock ISD, and Tornillo ISD as well as enrollment services leaders from both UTEP and EPCC. Supported by funding from the Moody Foundation with technical assistance from US PREP, this initiative will work to expand postsecondary access and persistence, wrap-around support, and high-quality teacher preparation, including the paid Miner Teacher Residency, to better serve rural students across far West Texas/Borderlands. 🌄📚🍎

🟠🏫🔵 UTEP’s Teacher Preparation Program was thrilled to kick-off the Fall 2026 semester by welcoming undergraduate, ACP and paraprofessional Miner Teacher Residents to our day-long Language Institute, which was led by our amazing UTEP Site Coordinators! 🌟 At the Institute, residents gained hands-on practice with tools and strategies to support their emergent bilingual learners. This initiative is made possible through funding provided by the Hawkins Program of the US Department of Education. 📚✏️

On Friday, July 31, 2026, UTEP College of Education proudly joined Canutillo ISD in honoring three outstanding support staff from Canutillo ISD as they begin their journey toward becoming certified teachers through the Grow Your Own Program as part of the PREP Allotment. ✨

Congratulations to Jose Reyes, Elizabeth Williams, and Ana Mack, who will pursue their bachelor's degrees in Education at UTEP while continuing to serve their school communities.

UTEP is proud to partner with Canutillo ISD to help prepare the next generation of educators and strengthen the teacher workforce in our region.

🎉 On July 21, 2026, UTEP’s College of Education proudly welcomed the next generation of educators during the virtual 2026 Miner Teacher Residency Orientation with two of our newest partner districts, Klein and Dallas ISD!

🏫 Led by our Assistant Dean and amazing UTEP Site Coordinators, the virtual orientation brought together teacher candidates with their host teachers to prepare for the exciting year ahead. Residents will serve across multiple campuses throughout the greater Houston metro and Dallas regions, gaining valuable hands-on experience while supporting student success.

✨ We wish all of our Miner teachers a successful, rewarding, and inspiring start to the school year!

On July 22, 2026, the UTEP College of Education celebrated the successful conclusion of the El Paso K-12 AI Learning Incubator with its third and final workshop! 🎉

Made possible through the support of the Hopper Dean Center of Excellence for K–12 Computer Science Education, El Paso Computes/City of El Paso, and the El Paso Community Foundation, the workshop brought together educational leaders from Canutillo ISD, Clint ISD, El Paso ISD, Socorro ISD, Tornillo ISD, and Ysleta ISD to explore the evolving role of artificial intelligence in K–16+ education.

Throughout the K-12 AI Learning Incubator, participants worked collaboratively to develop a shared, region-wide vision for the thoughtful and responsible integration of AI into schools and educator preparation.

We look forward to continuing this partnership with our school districts as we advance AI-driven opportunities that empower educators and students alike. 🚀

In just a few weeks, our residents will begin their year-long residency experience in classrooms across the region.

🏫 UTEP and our district partners came together to prepare 69 teacher candidates with their host teachers for the exciting year ahead. Residents will serve across multiple campuses throughout the El Paso region, gaining valuable hands-on experience while supporting our community’s students.

📚✨ Empowering Math Educators Through High-Quality Instructional Materials! ✨📚

From June 8–10, 2026, UTEP’s College of Education hosted educators from across the region who participated in the HQIM Math Institute for K–8 Teachers, a three-day professional learning experience focused on strengthening mathematics instruction through High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM).

With expert facilitation from Faculty Site Coordinators Cynthia Acosta, Anaeva Rodriguez, Ellen Baumler, and Erica Nash, along with Clint ISD teachers Laura Tullius-Medina, Elias Mendoza, and Jorge Puente, participants engaged in learning focused on lesson internalization, student work analysis, aggressive monitoring, data-driven instruction, assessment practices, learning acceleration, student engagement strategies, and the effective use of AI to support teaching and learning.

Through collaboration, reflection, and hands-on application, educators gained practical tools and actionable strategies to strengthen instruction, enhance student learning outcomes, and ensure all students have access to rigorous, grade-level mathematics.

Many thanks to the El Paso Community Foundation/Gates Foundation for their support of this endeavor. Thank you to all the educators who dedicated their time, expertise, and passion to making this institute a success. We look forward to seeing the impact of this learning in classrooms throughout the coming school year!

🎉 On May 27, 2026, UTEP’s College of Education proudly welcomed the next generation of educators during the 2026 Miner Teacher Residency Orientation with two of our partner districts, Clint ISD and Socorro ISD. In just a few weeks, our residents will begin their year-long residency experience in classrooms across the region.

🏫 UTEP and our district partners came together to prepare 51 teacher candidates and 51 host teachers for the exciting year ahead. Residents will serve across multiple campuses throughout Clint and Socorro ISD, gaining valuable hands-on experience while supporting our community’s students.

✨ We wish all of our future educators a successful, rewarding, and inspiring start to the school year!

🎉 UTEP’s College of Education proudly celebrated the launch of the 2026–2027 Miner Teacher Residency during our biannual Match Day Ceremony held on May 22, 2026.

✅ About 120 UTEP teacher candidates were recognized as they prepare to begin their year-long residency this fall within eight exceptional partner school districts: Canutillo ISD, Clint ISD, El Paso ISD, Fabens ISD, Socorro ISD, Ysleta ISD and our newest district partners, Dallas ISD and Klein ISD.

🎒 This milestone would not be possible without the strong collaboration and dedication of our district, campus, and community partners who continue to invest in the preparation and success of future educators.

👨‍🏫 We were especially honored to welcome graduating residents Apollo Perono and Josiah Frayre, who shared heartfelt reflections and encouraging words with the incoming cohort. Their experiences and advice provided valuable inspiration as our future residents begin this exciting chapter.
