It is the mission of the UTEP Black Alumni Network to establish and maintain lifelong connections between the University of Texas at El Paso, its alumni and friends, faculty and students and the El Paso community. This, in turn, leads to increased support for the university’s mission and goals and enrichment for all participants. Successful relations are the result of the strategic and deliberate

On November 14, 1960, four six-year-old Black girls—Ruby Bridges, Leona Tate, Gail Etienne, and Tessie Prevost—integrated New Orleans public schools, marking a critical turning point in desegregating Southern education. Ruby Bridges attended William Frantz Elementary, while Tate, Etienne, and Prevost integrated McDonogh 19, braving fierce protests and threats.
