“I started my career in the 1970s and there were people who would not go to therapy because they saw that as a sign of weakness.”

UTEP alumnu Richard Salcido ’78, ’86, a 2022 Gold Nugget honoree from the College of Education, spent more than four decades expanding access to mental health services, reducing stigma and mentoring future mental health professionals.

As El Paso’s oldest museum, our space needs vital upgrades to ensure this free, educational community resource is preserved for generations to come.

We’re raising $8,000 to improve sound quality for lectures, add seating and expand display cases throughout the museum. These upgrades will increase accessibility and learning opportunities for the thousands of guests who visit each year. Help us reach our goal by Nov. 13! 🧡

Last week, we honored Mike Brochu ’74, our 2026 Distinguished Alumnus, for his outstanding accomplishments and contributions to the Miner community. ⛏️

Let's Show the UT System What Miner Nation Can Do! Through Oct. 24, UT campuses across Texas are competing in the UT Showdown Against Hunger to see who can collect the most donations for their food pantry, and we want UTEP to win.

This year, UTEP opens its new market-style food pantry, one of the largest collegiate pantries in the nation. Your donations will help stock the shelves for opening day so students facing food insecurity have access to nutritious food and essentials all year long.

Want to donate on behalf of your college or in honor of a student org? Write the group's name on each donated item.

📢 Pro tip: Every item counts individually. A box of 52 oatmeal packets = 52 items! Multipacks and bulk buys go a long way.

What happens when you combine a passion for helping others with a love for travel and exploration? For UTEP alumna Dr. Ovidia Chacon '16, it led to a career as a travel physical therapist in Alaska. ⛰️

Dr. Chacon's journey began at UTEP, where she initially wasn't sure what career path she wanted to pursue. After discovering physical therapy, she found a field that combined her love of science and helping others.

Today, she works as a travel PT, taking assignments in communities across the country while making time to travel, visit family and enjoy the outdoors. Her career has given her the flexibility to fit work around her lifestyle.
