Department of University Studies, Elizabeth City State University The Department of General Studies sets the foundation for liberal arts studies, the first year experience, tutoring, and advising. Success is the goal.

The Department of University Studies is the lower division of the University and the entering academic unit for all students. Its purpose is to provide a core curriculum which is designed to give students fundamental knowledge and skills and a broad liberal and cultural education. Faculty within the department advise students during their first two years and prepare them for admission to a degree-

granting program. The department also coordinates various support services which help students to enhance their skills, become academically successful and clarify their personal and career goals.
