Paper airplanes probably aren’t the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a finance class.

But students in Assistant Teaching Professor of Finance Wes Hershelman’s Principles of Finance class used them to put concepts like pricing, costs, gross margin, markup and break-even analysis into practice.

Working in teams, students built their own paper airplane “companies,” made production and pricing decisions, and calculated whether their businesses would be profitable.

Then came quality control: each plane had to fly at least 15 feet to count as a sale.

From Oak Originals to Family Weekend.

Henry Ginsburg ’28, an economics and entrepreneurship double major, is the founder of Blueprint Bricks, a business that creates custom LEGO models of homes and other meaningful buildings.

Ginsburg has shared his work with the Elon community as an Oak Originals vendor through the Doherty Center for Creativity, Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Zachary Taylor ’26 is continuing his involvement with Beta Alpha Psi in a new way.

Taylor, a former president of Elon’s Lambda Xi chapter who now works at PwC, has been selected to serve as a 2026-27 Alumni Task Force Leader for the Atlantic Coast and Southeast Regions.

“Beta Alpha Psi has shaped my time at Elon more than anything else I’ve been part of, so getting to serve the organization at the national level feels like a full circle moment,” Taylor said. “The connections I made through Lambda Xi opened doors I did not know existed, and I want to keep those doors open for the next group coming through.”

Taylor was encouraged to pursue the opportunity by Prof. Patty Cox, faculty adviser for Elon’s Lambda Xi chapter.

Congratulations, Zachary!

What are real estate investors actually paying attention to?

New research from associate professor Thibaut Morillon and his co-authors explores how retail and institutional investors may evaluate real estate mutual funds differently.

The study suggests retail investors may focus more on past returns, while institutional investors may pay closer attention to the amount of risk taken to achieve them.

The first day is officially in the books!

Students are back in the classroom, meeting professors and classmates, and getting settled into a new semester at the LSB.

It was great to see classrooms full again with plenty of conversation, questions and energy for the year ahead.

Welcome back, Phoenix!

We’re wrapping up our student organization spotlight series with Women in Sales.

Women in Sales gives students opportunities to explore careers in sales while building professional skills, confidence and connections. Members participate in a semester-long speaker series, LinkedIn and résumé workshops, networking opportunities and an end-of-semester etiquette dinner, while also connecting with women leaders, alumni and industry professionals.

Current and former Women in Sales members: What experience helped you grow the most professionally?

Women in Sales is just one of many ways students can get involved at the Love School of Business. Across LSB, student organizations offer opportunities to explore industries, build leadership skills, connect with peers and professionals, and discover new interests.

Next in our student organization spotlight: Supply Chain Management Club.

One of LSB’s newer student organizations, the Supply Chain Management Club connects students interested in supply chain, project management and global business operations.

Through speaker events with professionals from companies such as Labcorp, Westinghouse, BASF and Glen Raven, members gain exposure to topics including logistics, operations strategy, risk management and ethics in supply networks. The club also gives students a space to discuss current industry challenges and learn from one another as the field continues to grow.

While the organization primarily supports students studying supply chain and project management, it welcomes anyone interested in how goods, services and information move through today’s global economy.

Current members: What’s one thing you wish more people understood about supply chain?
