MASONIC BREVIARY.

THE DEGREES.

Initially, Freemasonry was considered Operative, that is, dedicated to manual work; later, he understood how to refine knowledge in an intellectual way, becoming Symbolic or Speculative; finally, Freemasonry turned exclusively to the intellect, calling itself Philosophical.

According to the capacity of each worker, within his activity, Operative Masonry had gradations or degrees; Currently, once the symbolic phase of the first three degrees has passed, others have been established, according to each rite, ranging from 7 to 99.

There are Initiatic and Intermediate degrees.

As the university is the product of the first corporations, to reach the top of instruction, the "student" goes through several stages, always in progress. This constitutes the Grade.

From the Initiation, the Initiate becomes a complete Mason; but, with constant progress and storage of knowledge, this Mason rises from degree to degree until he reaches the "top of the pyramid," when he becomes the Master of Masters.

Even as an Apprentice, the Mason must aspire to ascend and, with zeal and pertinence, evolve within his rite, until reaching the maximum knowledge and placing himself in the position of a master to be the Master of his Brothers.
