Gannon Mathematics

Gannon Mathematics The official Facebook home of Gannon University's Department of Mathematics.

Gannon’s Department of Mathematics has a small and very friendly group of faculty members who are dedicated to providing you with the best possible education. We work our best to make sure that we really get to know our students and work closely with all of them to ensure academic success and success after graduation. We offer an assortment of mathematics courses in “pure” areas like algebra, geom

etry, and calculus as well as “applied” courses in modeling, statistics, and financial mathematics. We also offer three paths towards a degree in mathematics:
1) standard mathematics major, which has lots of room for elective courses that will allow you to explore a secondary interest in one of the other fields at Gannon and prepares one for a broad variety of careers or for graduate school.
2) secondary-education track, which leads to certification to teach mathematics for grades 7-12.
3) actuarial science concentration, which supplements the normal math major with courses in economics, finance, and accounting to help prepare for a career modeling risk for the insurance and finance industries. The actuarial track also includes courses taught in the mathematics department specifically aimed toward three professional actuarial exams (P, FM, and IFM). Our program is included in the Society of Actuaries list of “Universities & Colleges with Actuarial Programs.”

All of our majors will also receive practical experience toward their future goals by either engaging in a research project with a faculty member (which could lead to publishable results), completing an internship, or student-teaching. If you have any questions about Gannon or the Mathematics Department or want to schedule a visit to talk in person or sit in on a class, please do not hesitate to contact us.
