Our students Paul K. Benny and Saujan Siwakoti had an amazing opportunity to attend the SAE International AeroTech 2022 conference in Pasadena, California last week. They represented Gannon University at the conference.

As per them, "The technical presentations, the exhibits, and the many different networking opportunities we were able to be a part of have made us immensely enlightened about the future of the Aerospace and Aeronautics industry."

The technical sessions was provided with engineers from Boeing, Airbus, Joby Aviation, Wisk Aero, Skydio, Federal Aviation Administration, and NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

We thank SAE international for hosting this event and all the people who contributed to its success.

The Solar Powered Fruit Dehydrator (SFD) is a cost-effective fruit dehydrator intended for use by those in developing countries where access to electronic equipment is not available. The dehydrator was designed to increase storage duration of fruits and vegetables. Internal temperatures reach about 125 degrees Fahrenheit, which is in the recommended range for dehydrating fruits and vegetables.

Although it is not a technical project since it was scaled only 1/3 size of the actual design and has no power components, this project is perfect for usage in poor regions as it is cheap and runs without power. This project required design, analysis and constant upgrades to have a consistent output and was a engineering experience for a lot of our young engineers.

The SFD was designed and built by a team of six undergraduate engineering students here at Gannon. Resources and tools supplied by Gannon has made such a project possible.

ASME, Gannon Chapter held their first General Meeting of the year. It was a introductory session to familiarize new students with the concept of ASME and how it has helped our students grow and prosper as a engineer and a global citizen along with a guest speaker, Dr. Mahesh Aggarwal. The possibilities are limitless when you get to network with highly trained and experienced professionals from around the world as well as engage yourself in the events and activities conducted by them. They also announced their partnership with Erie Gains to help maintain and construct Free Little Libraries around Downtown Erie. So, if you as a Mechanical Engineering student in Gannon want to do something more, learn, collaborate, network, involve in creative projects and build a healthy community here at Gannon feel free to reach out to our ASME club. Follow their Instagram page (asme.gannon) for daily updates.

ASME Give Day 2021 Project
For 2021 our ASME team partnered with Erie Gains to setup a Little Free Library at Emerson Gridley. We are also proud to announce that they have partnered to be official partners to help construct and repair these establishments around downtown.
Little free Libraries is a nonprofit organization based in Hudson, Wisconsin. Their mission is to be a catalyst for building community, inspiring readers, and expanding book access for all through a global network of volunteer-led Little Free Libraries. They carry a vision to establish Little Free Library in every community and a book for every reader. \

Have you checked out the new i-HACK building? !
I-HACK serves as the global headquarters for academic, industry and business owners to design, integrate and protect cybernetic intelligence and data systems worldwide.
• Cyber Attack Lab
Here you learn to deploy White Hat Hacking techniques in a controlled environment to ethically simulate and study real-word attacks to prevent them in the future.
• Cyber Defense Lab
Check out this lab to learn how to protect digital lives by assessing systems for vulnerabilities, detecting scams, and designing solutions against emerging cyber threats using well established cyber defense tools.
• Cyber Innovation Lab
Here you can gain hands-on experience experimenting on IoT connected devices to design and build secure data using next-generation quantum-resistant cryptosystems. You also get to learn how to protect security platforms enabled with AI and ML using cybersecurity.

Currently I-Hack houses 3D-printers, laser cutters and other state-of-the-art equipment helping ME students further their understanding of mechanical concepts through practical demonstrations. It is also a nurturing workspace for aspiring engineers as this is where all our senior students plan and construct their design projects. Visit their official site for more information.

I am a 2020 Gannon BSME graduate. At Gannon, I was given the opportunity to be part of Gannon ASME and Pi Tau Sigma. I also got to work as an undergraduate research assistant with Dr. Gee. Right now, I am working with Emerson Electric's Power and Water Solutions (formerly Westinghouse Process Control) as an Associate Field Engineer. As a Field Engineer, I will be traveling around the region to provide technical support for the hardware and software involved with Emerson's Ovation distributed control systems which are found in the power generation and water treatment industries.

Gannon helped me get to where I am by providing many opportunities for personal and career development (i.e., On-campus interviews, Behrend Career Fair, Info about the FE Exam, Volunteering, and Manufacturing Day). Also, through those 4 years, my professors spoke of their stories and experiences that better prepared me the world beyond Gannon. I felt that overall, I had a clearer picture of the engineering world than some of my friends who had gone to larger universities.

I am Adam Malecki and my experience at Gannon consists of playing baseball and Mechanical Engineering. The best part about Gannon is being able to do both successfully, which is mostly in part to how great the Mechanical Engineering Department is. The professors are willing to be flexible and put in any extra time needed, especially one on one instruction, any time I do not fully understand or miss lectures. Our labs and lab techs show us how real-world engineering actually is done. They also give me tons of opportunities for research and on campus jobs, both of which I have took advantage of. Overall, it is hard to see myself this successful in any other school.
