Celebrating Class of 2026!

Meet Caden La Rue!

“We started the morning of commencement, conducting a prescribed fire and finished just in time to get cleaned up and walk across the stage for a selfie with the college president!

At the beginning of my college career, I was very happy and ready to finish my schooling, only to have a fallout. I will be the first to say I didn't think Iowa Lakes would even let me come back, let alone finish my degree. It took me four and a half years, and though I'm not proud of how I started my college career, I am very happy with how I finished it! From having a very low GPA to fighting back and graduating with pure grit, the Iowa Lakes staff and professors were always there. Tutors, teachers, family, friends, and all of the staff were with me. I loved taking all my Environmental Studies classes. Head-on, face-to-face labs and classes are the best way to learn in the environmental field. Whether it was going down to watch the last Prairie Chickens in Iowa (possibly), or figuring out plant diversity in a small area- Iowa Lakes is full of surprises, and you always know everyone is behind you. My advice for anyone is that success looks different for everyone, and unfinished dreams weigh the most.

Please join me in congratulating Caden!

Celebrating Class of 2026!

Meet Jackson Erickson!

"I enrolled in Iowa Lakes because of the time I had with their programs in high school. The program has been great for outdoor experiences and for learning directly from professionals. I currently have an internship set up with the Iowa DNR for the summer, and I plan on possibly continuing my education in the future."

Please join me in congratulating Jackson!

Celebrating Class of 2026!

Meet Brody Gronau!

“I chose the Iowa Lakes Environmental Studies program because of the real-world experience I would gain from a smaller school. In the fall orientation, I was signing up for classes, and Drew dropped everything he was doing to get me signed up for his classes. I have nothing but good things to say about my time at Iowa Lakes and the Environmental Studies program. My favorite memories of this program were all the hands-on labs that we did. My future plans are to attend Iowa State University and major in wildlife and fisheries conservation and ecology via the wildlife path. My future career plans are to work for the DNR as a tech or biologist”

Please join me in congratulating Brody!

Celebrating Class of 2026!

Meet Justin Mills!

"I chose Iowa Lakes because of the great things the college and my advisor had to offer on a personal and professional level. Choosing Iowa Lakes helped set me up for a successful future, not only in the field, but also in building valuable connections that have helped and will continue helping me down the road. Drew's environmental studies class offers so much valuable information, with hands-on, in-field labs and connections to natural resource professionals. My favorite part about attending Iowa Lakes was the activities I was able to be involved in and the numerous connections I made along the way. I am currently attending South Dakota State University, majoring in Wildlife and Fisheries Science. Drew's Environmental Studies program helped pave the way to a successful time at SDSU! "

Please join me in congratulating Justin!

• An understanding of relevant state, federal, and local environmental regulations or a willingness
to gain this knowledge.
• Display high standards of ethical conduct and commitment to quality service.
• Market, organize, and conduct public outreach programs to inform watershed landowners and
producers of available funding to address their resource concerns.
• The ability to represent the watershed project professionally through public engagement,

More information about the position.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service delivers an integrated program of sea lamprey control in treaty with Canada to assist in restoration of the Great Lakes fishery. Together with our partners, we assess larval and adult sea lamprey populations and control sea lampreys in the Great Lakes with state of the art techniques. Control techniques include application of lampricides in natal streams and lentic areas to kill larvae, as well as innovative alternative control technologies that limit reproduction such as trapping and use of barriers to limit spawning migrations. We collaborate with internal and external researchers to advance novel technologies for managing invasive species such as sea lamprey pheromones and repellents. We work closely with federal, state, and tribal agencies and international organizations including the Great Lakes Fishery Commission, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and several universities. The primary focus of the position is one or more of the following areas: to control sea lamprey populations through the application of lampricide and alternative control technologies; to develop and implement experimental biological control; to assess non-target effects of control; to assess abundance of adult sea lampreys to measure program success; and to assess presence, distribution and abundance of larval sea lamprey to guide and evaluate control efforts.
