A dog in Michigan has been specially trained to sniff out a bacteria that destroys beehives, which could help with bee preservation worldwide. Nearly 10-year-old Maple has been trained by researchers at Michigan State University and even wears her own bee suit.

Local can refer to something minutes away or hundreds of miles. Generally it will refer to honey that is produced in the same grow zone that you live in, since vegetation that grows there will not necessarily grow north or south of you. If you live in a grow zone ,honey within that grow zone would be considered local.

The reason you want local is so that the pollen around you is in the honey you purchase locally. This is an ideal source if you are looking for a honey to combat allergies.
