Selling chips to raise money for TSA!

06/30/2025

TSA National Robotics Competition - So this evening marks the end of an era. This was the last time the 2025 graduating crew got to compete with a robot in high school. Some of them having been doing this since middle school.
They were in line at 6:30 am to sign up for time slot to compete. Then they had to wait over 3 hours from their time slot to get to run the field at 7 pm.
Everything was going great until the arm was trying to lift this bar on the field and pop, pop, pop the chain on the arm broke. They couldn’t finish getting all the targets.
They were the only robotics team to represent Alabama this year. And this year was a whole new ballgame with a different format for the competition.
I am heartbroken that they didn’t get the finish they wanted. But I am so proud of their professionalism, their determination and ingenuity that got them this far, and their love for STEM and TSA. These young men will do so many great things in their future. I am going to miss them so much.

Constructing the Future: Why Engineering and Technology Education Matter
In a world where everything is accelerating at an ever-increasing pace, one thing is certain: technology and engineering control our lives in ways that are extremely powerful. From the smart phones in our pockets to the clean energy in our homes, these disciplines are the drivers of change. Which is why investing in education in technology and engineering isn't just necessary—it's necessary.

Preparing for Tomorrow's Jobs
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates STEM occupations (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) to expand nearly double as quickly as all other careers through 2031.
Occupations like computer programming, robotics engineering, and developing renewable energy systems are the wave of the future. Through the study of the roots of technology and engineering early on, students remain in front of the next generation's workforce.

More Than Just Coding
Engineering and technology education is more than coding. It's learning creative problem-solving, collaboration, and critical thinking. Whether they're prototyping, building a spaghetti bridge, or coding an app, they're learning to turn ideas into reality.

Equity and Access Matter
Providing these subjects to everyone—male, female, black, white, or whatever—is important. It is multiple points of view that generate innovation. By making STEM learning as inclusive as
possible, we are not just empowering individuals but creating a larger imaginative world.

Get Involved
We have several options at our school to get into engineering and technology, from robotics club to computer science classes. If that's something you'd like to do, then speak with teachers or guidance counselors about getting involved. What you learn today can be the tools that construct tomorrow.

Seeing the Montgomery Advanced Manufacturing Laboratories, where Mechanical Engineering students use milling machines and lathes. Some of our EHS Engineering students would love to spend some time in here.

EHS Engineering students loved learning about the Biomechanical Engineering Program at the recent Auburn Engineering Day. Their research helps with ACL injury prevention, exoskeleton technology, and prosthetics.
