UO International Peer Mentor Program

UO International Peer Mentor Program The University of Oregon's Office of International Affairs holds student success above all else.

The International Peer Mentor Program helps first-year international students find their place at the University of Oregon through academic success and cultural integration activities. We are committed to enhancing new international students' experience through collaborative support programs. New international students arriving for the first time in this country sometimes experience culture shock,

homesickness and may find it hard to make friends or get involved with campus life. In response to these challenges, we have created a student-led program based on the concept of peer-to-peer mentoring. Data indicates that new students who connect early with other students on campus have a more positive, rich college experience. We have created a powerful peer mentorship program designed solely for new international students. Our vision is to foster personal and academic growth in UO’s international students through a comprehensive, sustainable peer mentor program. Through relationship building and resource connection, we hope to support students on multiple levels while ensuring them a positive experience. We encourage our students to inspire each other to do great things and maximize their experience at UO. Our mission is to prepare UO’s international students to be global leaders through academic success, as well as cultural and social integration. This powerful peer mentor program places student development at its foundation. Through guided peer-to-peer mentoring, students empower each other to create community and feel connected to their new environment. This connectedness leads to better retention rates and overall student success.
