"Having classes that are available during the hours of 10am-2pm would help with being a student parent. There are classes that I would have taken but did not fit into my schedule as a parent... I was extremely happy to find the non-traditional student union because it gave me a place to find other students like me who are parents and can relate to the struggles of parenting while juggling school."

September is National Student Parent Month. 10% to 20% of UO students are also parents, (or 2,446 to 4,892 students.)

"I want to thank my Psychology professors who always allowed me to ask questions which a lot of the times referenced my own family and children, so that I could apply my knowledge learned in class to what was or had happened in my life."

"I want anyone who is a parent to know that it is never too late to go back to school, and that it will always feel like a “bad time” to do so. But don’t listen to that negativity, go back and do it for yourself and your children. It makes receiving that diploma that much sweeter I promise."

“Come at everything with grace, empathy, and kindness. If it’s worth it, perseverance will prevail! Being a parent can be rough. Being a single, student parent, can seem like a crazy impossible experience, and yet, I’m here succeeding even with epic failures along the way!”

This month, we're highlighting some of UO's student parents.

"Being a student parent is rewarding and difficult. One minute I’m holding a smiling child and the next I’m emailing a professor that I have to stay home with a sick kid. We go through so much and we appreciate any accommodation faculty are able to afford us.”
