UO Black Alumni Network

UO Black Alumni Network Vision:

Building a strong network for Black alumni and students for community and global impact. Building strong personal and professional networks.

The UOBAN was founded on these three principles

RELATIONSHIP - MENTORSHIP - SCHOLARSHIP

RELATIONSHIP
We want to re-establish the connection between Black Alumni and the University of Oregon. Facilitating a conversation with current UO Administration, Faculty and staff that best supports Black students on campus. We also plan to help connect or re-connect Black Alumni to each other. MENTORSHIP
We

want to connect Black Alumni to current Black UO Students to provide academic, professional and personal mentorship. SCHOLARSHIP
We want to focus on the history of academic excellence and help support recruitment, retention and graduation of Black UO Students. We will also work to raise funds to establish scholarships for Black Students.

Stay connected. Give back. Grow together. 🦆💚

The University of Oregon Black Alumni Network exists to foster meaningful community, strengthen personal and professional networks, and empower alumni / students through mentorship, scholarship, and celebration of Black excellence.

We’re inviting new board members to help carry that mission forward—through impactful philanthropy, regional board events, mentorship, and experiences that deepen connection across generations of Black Ducks.

This is about more than staying in touch—it’s about building a lasting network rooted in purpose, pride, and collective growth.

We’d love to have you be part of it.

Vibes were high. Glasses were full. 🍇🎶

The Bay showed out for the UO Black Alumni Wine Down and turned a simple wine day into something bigger—a space to reconnect, celebrate, and pour back into each other. These moments are a reflection of the pride and purpose of the University of Oregon Black Alumni Network—where community isn’t just a moment, it’s a commitment.

And where are just getting started. 🦆✨

We’re $25K away from changing lives. 🎓

Our community has already raised nearly $75,000 toward a $100,000 scholarship endowment for students at the University of Oregon.

Once we reach the goal, the fund will generate annual scholarships for future Ducks. 🦆

A heartfelt congratulations to Ericka Warren (BA ’92, MBA ’19) for a decade of visionary leadership as UOBAN founding president. What began as an idea became a powerful community rooted in mentorship, advocacy, and unwavering Black excellence because of your dedication. Your leadership didn’t just build a network — it built belonging. 👏🏽✨

Now, we proudly welcome Olivia Manwarren, (BA ’14) as she steps into the role of president. The foundation is strong, the vision is clear, and the future is bright. Here’s to continuing the work, strengthening the bridge, and uplifting generations of Ducks to come. 🦆💫

Oregon's Black History Keepers: 1940s

During WWII, African Americans from across the country made their way to Vanport to work in the shipyards. One of them was Clara Mae Peoples of Muskogee, Oklahoma. Peoples was surprised to find that many of her coworkers had never heard of Juneteenth, a holiday which she grew up celebrating. So, in 1945, Clara Mae convinced her boss to allow the Black shipyard workers to gather on their lunch break for Oregon's first-ever Juneteenth celebration.

In honor of the 100th anniversary of Black History Month, we're highlighting a century of Black history keepers here in Oregon. Without them, so many stories would be lost. We honor and appreciate their essential work this month, and all year round.
