📚✨ The Creative Writing Program invites you to a poetry reading with Jan Verberkmoes.

Jan Verberkmoes is a poet and editor from Oregon. Her first poetry collection, Firewatch, was published by Fonograf Editions in 2021, and recent work has appeared in Tupelo Quarterly, Lana Turner, and The Paris Review. Her writing has been supported by a Fulbright Fellowship to Germany, a John and Renée Grisham Fellowship, a Stadler Fellowship, and a Fairfield Fellowship from the University of Denver, where she is a PhD candidate in English and Literary Arts.

Creative Writing 407

An introduction to literary magazine editing and publishing. Students will learn to produce and edit the Northwest Review, a national magazine that has a long history at the UO and in the country. Students will help select, edit, copyedit, market and promote poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction for publication while they are part of reviving a literary legacy.

📚✨ The Creative Writing Program invites you to a fiction reading with Brian Trapp.

Brian Trapp directs both Disability Studies and the Kidd Program at the University of Oregon, where he also teaches fiction and nonfiction. His debut novel, Range of Motion, is out now from Acre Books. His work as been published in the Kenyon Review, Southern Review, Longreads, Brevity, and elsewhere. He has received a Steinbeck Fellowship, an Oregon Arts Fellowship, and a Taft Fellowship from the University of Cincinnati, where he completed his PhD. He grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, with his twin brother, Danny.

Poet Henri Cole, who participated in the Reading Series on April 17, joined OHC Director Leah Middlet on the UO Today podcast. His latest collection, “The Other Love”, is forthcoming in Summer 2025.

In the episode, he and Leah discuss his sonnets and his approach to the form. He also reads two poems from “Gravity and Center: Selected Sonnets 1994–2022.”

Reminder! This Thursday, May 15th at 7 pm in the Knight Library Browsing Room, please join us for a fiction reading with Tania James. Free and open to the public.

TANIA JAMES is the author of four works of fiction, all published by Knopf: Loot, which was nominated for The National Book Award and the Carol Shields Prize; The Tusk That Did the Damage, which was a finalist for the International Dylan Thomas Prize and the Financial Times Oppenheimer Award; Aerogrammes and Other Stories, named a Best Book of 2012 by Kirkus Reviews, Library Journal, and The San Francisco Chronicle; and the novel Atlas of Unknowns, which was a New York Times Editor’s Choice and a finalist for the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature. Her short stories have appeared in Freeman’s: The Future of New Writing; Granta; The New Yorker; O, The Oprah Magazine; and One Story, among other places, and thrice featured on Symphony Space Selected Shorts. She has received fellowships from the Macdowell Colony, Ragdale, the Sustainable Arts Foundation, and the Fulbright Program, and is an associate professor of English in the MFA program at George Mason University.
