Meet Ji'Ri Ash-Shakoor. Ji'Ri is earning his BS in accounting with a minor in psychology. Originally from a small town in North Carolina and raised in Michigan, Ji'Ri arrived on campus ready to build something.
As a resident assistant, a member of the Student Operations and Administrative Resources Team, and a former treasurer and active leader in the Black Male Alliance, Ji'Ri made community a central part of his involvement on campus. During his junior year, he also represented the Lundquist College of Business at the Diversity Case Competition at Indiana University, where his team became the first from Oregon to place in the history of the competition.
One of the most meaningful parts of his UO experience was becoming a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. during his sophomore year. Joining the fraternity was a lifelong goal rooted in his family’s legacy and its impact on generations of Black leaders and professionals. The following year, Ji'Ri helped charter the Alpha Epsilon Nu chapter at UO, building a new community on campus alongside his fraternity brothers.
Throughout his journey, Ji'Ri has carried with him a reminder from his dad about the order of his priorities: "God, family, handle your business."
After graduation, Ji'Ri plans to pursue opportunities in banking and finance while studying for the Securities Industry Essentials exam. His long-term goal is to achieve financial freedom and help minority and underrepresented communities build the financial literacy they need to pursue their dreams.
Congratulations, Ji'Ri! And remember, once a Duck, always a Duck. 💚💛🦆
