Northwestern University Program in Global Health Studies

Northwestern University Program in Global Health Studies Global Health Studies is an interdisciplinary adjunct major and minor through which students think critically about global health challenges and practices.

The Program in Global Health Studies at Northwestern University is an interdisciplinary adjunct major and minor spanning many subject areas within a diverse, exciting field. We provide a strong foundation from which to think critically about global health challenges and practices. Students simultaneously explore core fields of global health such as infectious disease, bioethics, or mental health.

The major and minor are not limited to pre-medicine students but rather can be used to complement many fields of study. To further supplement classroom knowledge, we require all students to participate in a public health study abroad program to gain a more direct understanding of the systemic, policy, and experiential differences between the U.S. and other countries. This experience solidifies the career goals of many students in the global health field. Follow us on Twitter:

Global Health Studies faculty, Dr. Elham Hoominfar, provides important context to the current Iranian protests in her recent political commentary, Structural Crisis and the Expectation of Revolution, in Iran Draft. https://loom.ly/CdmGft4

In Iran, economic demands are political. Like “Woman, Life, Freedom,” today’s protests are cross-class and pluralistic, binding bread-and-butter grievances to calls for human dignity and freedom, a signature pattern of 21st-century movements.
