Multicultural Filmmakers Collective

Multicultural Filmmakers Collective Northwestern University's only student film organization representing multicultural interests Feel free to shoot us a message, contact us, and support.

We're Multicultural Filmmakers Collective at Northwestern University, but you may know us as Multiculti or MFC (we have a few nicknames). We are a student group committed to promoting greater representation of people from underrepresented backgrounds in all aspects of the film community at Northwestern -from development to casting to physical production and beyond. We aim to educate students and p

rovide them with opportunities to create thought-provoking and socially conscious content and also connect student filmmakers with the greater film industry in Chicago, L.A., and New York. Each year, we create programming and opportunities for students to learn, create, and network. Some of our events include quarterly film screenings, our annual alumni panel, and our annual spring speaker. We also annually award a film production grant to produce a short film project that aligns with our organization's goals. Oh, and don't forget to hit that "like" button.

Announcing our Fall Speaker event! Join us on Wednesday, November 6th at 6:30pm in the AMS Auditorium for a screening and talkback of the documentary Desde Cero: The Migrant Journey of Chicago. Filmmakers DS Shin and Ivon Espitia will be in attendance, with the talkback moderated by Professor Nathan Rossi!

MORE ON THE FILM: Desde Cero: The Migrant Journey of Chicago is a one-hour, bilingual documentary by NBC 5 Chicago and Telemundo Chicago. Reporters Sandra Torres and Ivon Espitia with Senior Digital Video Producer DS Shin capture the experiences and perspectives of migrant families and individuals on their journeys to the United States and Chicago over the span of six months. The documentary works to humanize the migrant crisis in Chicago beyond headlines and amplify the voices of those most affected.
