Indiana CRNAs and members of the NA1 cohort of UE Nurse Anesthesia spent the morning volunteering at the 20th annual Digestive Care Center Colon Screening for Life 5K in downtown Evansville. A couple of UE Nurse Anesthesia NA2 students ran the race and had lots of cheerleaders at the finish line!! Indiana CRNAs and SRNAs are happy to support our communities and such wonderful causes - it’s our fifth year volunteering in Evansville, and we appreciate DCC for asking us again! Breakfast at Comfort by the Cross Eyed Cricket following the race didn’t disappoint!

Dr. Aleks Nagornay received the Dean’s Teaching Award at the College of Education and Health Sciences Spring Meeting today. He is so invested in our students, and he is so deserving of this award. Here is what one student had to say about Aleks:

Dr. Nagornay is not your typical professor...he is so much more than that. Learning with him is not transactional. He gives endlessly without expecting anything in return, and that is something you don’t come across often. He is the type of educator who truly goes above and beyond to make sure we have what it takes to be successful, and not just in his classroom, but in our future careers as well.

It is clear how invested he is in each of us and in our futures. He welcomes our questions and concerns, and he always takes the time to make sure he is meeting us where we are and answering to what we actually need. In just a short year, he has made such a meaningful impact on my journey to becoming a CRNA, and I know he will continue to impact so many students in ways he may never fully realize.

At the end of the day, it is educators like Dr. Nagornay who make all the difference. He creates an environment where students feel supported, challenged, and capable of reaching their goals. He is truly invaluable to the University of Evansville CRNA program and is more than deserving of this award.

The University of Evansville had a great showing in D.C. the past few days! From Dr. Eisenhauer sharing her experiences on PAC and mentoring panels to students navigating The Hill and legislative visits for the first time, it was a great time of advocating for the best profession on earth with other Indiana CRNAs!
