Hoosiers will be excited to hear that they can support pollinator conservation efforts starting January 1 2026 with a brand new license plate! You don't have to wait for registration renewal- you can order yours from the DMV online. The license plate will raise money and awareness for our pollinators.

We did it, Indiana!🎉 Pollinator Partnership is excited to announce the Protect Pollinators specialty license plate available in Indiana raising awareness and funding for pollinator and native plant conservation efforts across the state starting January 2026.

The new plate was made possible thanks to a grassroots campaign that gathered more than 1,200 Hoosier signatures in just one week. Proceeds from every plate will directly support pollinator habitat creation, education, and outreach projects statewide.

“This is a way for every Hoosier with a car to show their love for pollinators and make a direct impact,” said Phoebe Redfield, Conservation Director at Pollinator Partnership.

Learn more about the purpose behind the plate and how you can get one for your vehicle at pollinator.org/license-plates/in or click the link in our bio.

Invasive species pose a huge threat to local ecosystems, especially to bee populations. University of Southern Indiana students have been removing these from campus, including Bradford Pears, Burning Bush and Multiflora Rose. Check out this article in The Shield at USI by Rose Robinson for more information!

Anyone who enjoys spending time in the outdoors knows what a pain invasive species can be. Whether it be multiflora roses attempting to recreate sleeping beauty’s castle, or kudzu carpeting everything in sight, these plants have a tendency to take over ecosystems and stifle native plants and anima...

This space on the USI campus was previously a one acre lawn but in the spring, thanks to native seed from Spence Restoration Nursery, it will be a wildflower meadow. This project helps to fulfill the commitment USI has as a Bee Campus to increase pollinator habitat. Bee Campus is an initiative by the The Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation.

A key goal of a Bee Campus is to expand habitat for native bee species. This objective is met not only by introducing native plants that support pollinator life cycles but also by eradicating invasive species that diminish diversity in wild spaces by outcompeting native species. Today was a landmark day as one such invasive species was removed from the USI campus. Multiple 30+ year-old Bradford Pear trees, a cultivar of Pyrus calleryana, were cut down and will no longer serve as a source of invasion for neighboring landscapes. The effort to remove the Bradford pear trees was led by pre-med student Joseph Cirrincione, who serves as Co-President of the Pott College Student Advisory Board and as the Pott College Representative to the Student Government Association. Joseph worked closely with biology major Dylan Kandal to map the locations of the trees on campus and coordinate removal with the Facilities Operations and Planning Department. The students' achievement today is worthy of recognition, and the USI staff and administration deserve appreciation for their collaborative efforts in supporting pollinator conservation. 🌳 Buzzing with excitement and pride here at the University of Southern Indiana as we celebrate the work our Biology and Botany students accomplished this weekend! Partnering with Evansville Parks, they planted 65 native trees—including Bald Cypress, Black Gum, Hop Hornbeam, Sycamore, Red Mulberry, and Persimmon—at Anthony Oates Park, helping to expand the city’s forest canopy.
🌱 Students gained hands-on experience in urban forestry, including the importance of selecting native tree species for pollinators, and learning tree planting skills to ensure proper planting depth, root care, and mulching to maximize tree survival. We are grateful to the Evansville Department of Parks & Recreation for providing the opportunity for hands-on learning for these students. USI Pott College of Science, Engineering, and Education
