The best kept secret! Last month, ArtsComm team members and student videographer Madison English, went to Citizens Bank Park to meet up with Tom McCarthy ’90, Philadelphia Phillies broadcaster, and record an intro and social media message for our Class of 2026 graduates.

Yesterday, we shared the intro at our ArtsComm Commencement and Tom surprised our graduates and their families as our alumni speaker. What an amazing moment! Thank you for making the day so memorable!

Thank you, Madison, for your incredible work filming and editing the video messages.

The special commencement project is leading to networking opportunities for Madison, a Communication Studies major, who recently returned to the ballpark to shadow Tom and his team during a Phillies game. We are proud of you and the connections that you are making!

Artivism @ TCNJ hosted The Joy Symposium, a day-long celebration of the 2025-26 Joy Project initiative on April 25. One of the signature events was an intimate poetry reading and Q&A session with New York Times Bestselling Author, Ross Gay. The afternoon also featured presentations, performances and exhibitions of creative work in the AIMM side gallery. Later that evening, TCNJ Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Eric Laprade, presented “Dilate Your Heart.” The ensemble welcomed Ross Gay, as guest poet for the evening.

We’re offering TCNJ Summer Brass Institute, from July 12-17, for high school-aged trumpet, horn, trombone, bass trombone, baritone/euphonium, and tuba students! Work closely with institute faculty to develop your fundamentals, improve your tone, and grow as a brass player.

“I am hoping that students will get to play great brass music with colleagues who are just as excited about music as they are. We are looking forward to programming lots of exciting repertoire for the students and also digging into the process of improving on their instruments. I am hoping they make great friendships and connections at the institute.”
- Benjamin Kauffman, Tuba faculty

“I have learned and I teach my students to treat every ensemble like chamber music in regard to sensitivity to what goes on around you and locking in with other people. In addition to building ensemble skills, playing quintet is a lot of fun and I hope to share my experience and have a great time with the students this summer at our brass institute.”
- Bob Gale, Trombone & Euphonium Faculty
