The TCNJ International Studies Program & the TCNJ Department of World Languages and Culture are pleased to welcome Samar Kerkeni as a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA).

The Fulbright FLTA Program is designed to develop Americans' knowledge of foreign cultures and languages by supporting teaching assistantships in over 30 languages at hundreds of U.S. institutions of higher education. Drs. Nicholas Toloudis’ (International Studies) and Joseph Goebel (WLC)’s successful application brought Samar to us from Tunisia. In her home country, Samar was a TESOL certified English Language Teacher and an MA TESOL research student with the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Tunis. She earned a master’s degree in applied linguistics and TESOL and has expertise in integrating technology into the classroom setting and creating innovative lesson plans.

Samar will be teaching Arabic for Beginners and The Contemporary Arab World this fall. Welcome to TCNJ!

The International Studies Program hosts Dr. Patricia Kim of NYU as she presents “Un/Silencing Memory: A Transhistorical Approach to Monuments” on Friday, April 22 at 12:30 pm on Zoom.

The visible redaction of public symbols is a form of iconoclasm that differs from other modes of physical destruction or erasure on material, aesthetic, and conceptual grounds. Drawing on archaeological and heritage discourses, this talk explores the stakes of public symbols in matters of historical and contemporary political violence.

Patricia Eunji Kim, PhD is an art historian, curator, and educator based in New York City. She is Assistant Professor/Faculty Fellow at New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study and Associate Director of Public Engagement at Monument Lab. Dr. Kim’s teaching and research use methods from the arts and humanities to explore questions of gender, race, power, and memory from antiquity to the present.

Dr. Erakat is a featured speaker for Women's History Month and will present "Equality or Decolonization?: Understanding Israeli Apartheid and the Palestinian Freedom Struggle" on Wednesday, March 30th at 6:00 pm in the Library Auditorium. Dr. Kurien is a professor of sociology at Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.
