The Film and Video Studies Program (FAVS) offers a 120-credit multidisciplinary BA degree with concentrations in Directing/Producing, Screenwriting, and Production/PostProduction. Students study film and video production, theory, criticism, ethics, screenwriting, and business. As soon as students arrive to the program, the

y will take production courses, have access to equipment in the FAVS Equipment Cage and computing resources in our Jason Cortez Creativity Lab and Mason STAR Lab. Our program is multidisciplinary which means that classes are in Film and Video, but also Art and Visual Technology, Communication, English, Game Design, Theater, History and Art History, Modern and Classical Languages, Women and Gender Studies, African and African American Studies, and Global Studies departments. Film and Video Studies is driven by an independent film spirit. We work with students who use visual storytelling to increase self-reflexivity and cross-cultural understanding, who are interested in working collaboratively, and who are open to exploring a variety of filmmaking styles and practices historically and internationally. Creative solutions and original thinking are paramount as students practice the craft of film and its related forms (serialized fiction on television and the web, nonfiction / documentary, fiction and experimental cinema). Professionalism and entrepreneurship are core components of the program. FAVS filmmakers are screening work at regional and international film festivals, winning awards, landing jobs in all areas of media production and post, and starting their own companies.
