NDSU Extension - 4-H Animal Science Inspiring youth to impact the future of the agriculture industry.
The life skills gained on a judging team is invaluable.

Animal Science activities and projects can provide opportunities for youth to develop responsibility, patience, understanding, and a multitude of life skills by regularly caring for animals. Furthermore, by learning to feed and care for animals, 4-H members involved in the Animal Science projects learn about animal health, nutrition, physiology, evaluation and reproduction. Animal Science is diverse and does not always just incorporate the animal, as the environment is a key component of sustainability too. A 4-H member can learn breeds of animals, their characteristics, uses, how to identify them and their influence in the industry. As a result, they can then apply this knowledge to our current industry. Members in the 4-H Animal Science area learn to understand marketing and the economic importance of the livestock industry as well as how to keep and use records. Our 4-H lead to inspire and industry, they are our future. North Dakota State University is an equal opportunity educator and employer. This work is supported by the U.S. Department of Agricultureโ€™s National Institute of Food and Agriculture. Persons with disabilities who require alternative means of communication for program information (e.g., Braille, large print) print, audiotape, American Sign Language, etc.) should contact NDSU Extension at 701-231-1865. 4-H Clover Bear and Thundar reminding you about Giving Day!

Early giving begins October 20 for NDSU Giving Day!

Your gift to 4-H multiplies through young people. North Dakota 4-H reaches 33,000+ youth annually through clubs, schools, camps, events and community-based experiences. Whether a young person is showing livestock, building a robot, welding a table, giving a demonstration or attending camp, the lasting return is the skills and confidence developed along the way.

Youth rooted in 4-H are ready to grow in their next chapter... to be Beyond Ready for the workforce and reach their goals.

Emma Tong grew up in Williams County 4-H and is now a Medical Assistant at Altru Neurology. She will join the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciencesโ€™ M.D. Class of 2031. She also serves as Miss North Dakota 2026. ๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš•๏ธ๐Ÿ‘‘

"My 4-H experience gave me so many life skills, from public speaking and problem solving to thinking critically. 4-H was a safe space where I could continue to grow in these areas without fear of judgment. More than anything, 4-H taught me the importance of service and giving back to my community. That lesson has stayed with me and continues to shape how I serve others as Miss North Dakota and how I hope to serve my patients as a future physician."

Thank you Emma for sharing your 4-H story!
