Challey Hall was a sea of yellow this past weekend for our 37th annual NDSU High School Choral Festival! 💛 We were thrilled to host 560 students from 46 regional high schools on campus to learn from our choral faculty and guest conductors, then perform a concert in Festival Concert Hall. Thank you to everyone who traveled near and far to participate! And a big Bison thank you to our conductors Dwight Jilek, Nicki Toliver, Shelley Zietz, and Steve Hoemberg for making all of this magic possible.

Here's a roundup of some fun photos from the weekend, courtesy of Sara Gedrose Lichtblau, Rugby Music Boosters, Wyndmere Music Department, Fargo South Bruin Booster Club, Central Cass Friends of Fine Arts, and May-Port CG School District.

Do you have photos from Choral Festival to share? Post them below! 🤘🎶

Have you ever heard the sound a harpsichord makes?

For 50 years, the Hubbard harpsichord at North Dakota State University has filled performances with its bright, distinctive sound. When age began to take its toll, a team of Bison combined craftsmanship, music, and 3D-printing technology to help bring it back to life.

“I believe musical instruments have their own character and story that live within them,” music major Zakk Volk ’27 said. “We are just one part of preserving this one for the next few decades.”

Hear the harpsichord in the video below and read “Mechanics Behind the Music” from the newest edition of Herd to discover how Zakk and others helped restore an old instrument at NDSU: https://ndsufoundation.com/magazine/2026/09/mechanics-behind-the-music
