In response to Maine’s critical workforce need for fully-prepared professionals, the University of Maine at Farmington is proud to announce it has designed a totally online degree completion program to help adult learners attain a Bachelor of Science degree in Rehabilitation Services.

UMF is the only public institution in New England that offers an undergraduate degree program in Rehabilitation Services, an applied human services degree aimed at helping people with disabilities or at-risk conditions live independently.

UMF students Kendra Burgess from Chelsea and Wendy Castonguay from Wayne, are completing a 600-hour internship with Bath Iron Works "Fit for Life" employee health program. Coordinated by Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, the workplace health program provides participants with an annual health screening, a comprehensive set of health promotion strategies and educational programs, and health coach support. “I am thrilled with the opportunity to apply what I have learned at UMF in the real world,” Burgess said. “I can’t think of a better career goal than to help Maine people and their families live healthier lives.”

A recreational trail system created by a faculty member at the University of Maine at Farmington has been awarded a generous $3,500 grant from the Maine Outdoor Heritage Fund. “We’re very grateful to the Maine Outdoor Heritage Fund for their support of this local project that offers campus and community members a new opportunity to enjoy the great Maine outdoors,” said James Hoisington, coordinator of UMF Alpine Operations.

Together with our partner the University of Maine at Presque Isle, we’re working to increase the amount of regionally-produced food on our school’s menus and build a healthier, more sustainable food system in our region. Eating good from the neighborhood continues to be a guiding principle at UMF, where 25 percent of food prepared and served by dining services provider Sodexo is locally sourced and 100 percent of our white fish is responsibly harvested from the Gulf of Maine. Today, we’re proud to announce that UMF is a partner recipient of the Henry P. Kendall Foundation’s 2019 New England Food Vision Prize, along with the University of Maine at Presque Isle and Sodexo. As part of the New England Food Vision Prize, the UMF-UMPI-Sodexo team will receive $250,000 to support a project that creates a more sustainable food system in our region — and brings more tasty, local food to menus in UMF’s South Dining Hall.
