The LinQ of Greater Farmington/SAGE Western Maine

The LinQ of Greater Farmington/SAGE Western Maine The LinQ is a social support opportunity for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Questioning, and Allies (LGBTIQA) to enjoy camaraderie.

Sponsored by SAGE Maine, we are an inter-generational social and support group for all members of the Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual communities and their allies. We meet Wednesday evenings to discuss issues of the day related to all things LGBTIQA! We meet at the Old South Congregational Church (they are our gracious hosts, our meetings are secular unless the topic of religion comes up!). Park in the

rear of the church, using the driveway which is between the church and the parish house. Enter through the door off that parking area, and we are in the room to the right!

Many thanks to the hundreds of people who stopped by to play the game. They were ALL winners. We saw many great new board games but none as important or as relevant to affirming the LGBTIQA community. We were humbled by the gratitude and appreciation expressed for what we've created, and for the amazing discussions we had with parents of q***r kids and the myriad coming out stories that were shared at our table. Also, the many bright folks who expressed their surprise and appreciation upon behind exposed to important information that they'd never before been aware of. (One player had to draw a picture of the Isle of Le**os, and another player actually identified the drawing. A third player read the explanation on the prompt card and was shocked and delighted to discover that 'le***an' was derived from a geographic location!)

He said that he isn't judged for his sexuality, something only possible in countries that love "freedom and liberty."

A reminder that even in what are considered LGBTQ-friendly communities, there are still threats to our community. Be 'out' when you can be, but don't be 'too proud' to duck back in the closet if you feel your safety might be in danger!

After weeks of continuously stealing a pride flag from the town square, he flipped out when he went to a grocery store Starbucks and a gay barista waited on him.

Our Story

We are an inter-generational social and support group for all members of the Gay, Le***an, Bisexual, Q***r, Transgender, and Intersex communities and their allies. We welcome members of the UMF campus (students, staff, faculty) and beyond (Mt Blue HS students, community members from Rumford, Moscow, China, Lewiston, and Waterville. We meet Thursday evenings to network, laugh, relax, ask and answer questions, and enjoy refreshments while we discuss issues of the day related to all things LGBTIQA in a safe, confidential space. We meet at the Old South Congregational Church at 235 Main Street. For those with aversions to organized religions that often ostracize our community, Old South is ‘open and affirming,’ and our meetings are secular. Of course, if spiritual or religious topics are what you want to discuss, just add it to our participant-driven agenda. (We always have backup plans so don’t worry if you don’t feel like sharing your thoughts.) Meetings are confidential and safe spaces. Sponsored by SAGE Maine, Rainbow Quest!, and the University of Maine at Farmington Division of Psychology and Human Development.
