A Jazz Tribute to Black History Month
Monday, February 22nd, 7:30-8:30PM @ Moton

The Moton Museum and Longwood University Department of Music invite you to A Jazz Tribute to Black History Month on February 22nd, 7:30-8:30PM at Moton. This free community concert will feature the music of Billie Holiday, one of the world's most prominent and influential swing-jazz singers.

Dr. Lisa Burrs, assistant professor of music and former Richmond Magazine Vocalist of the Year, will sing Holiday standards, including the powerful "Strange Fruit," noted for its explicit lyrical theme of Jim Crow repression. Burrs will be accompanied by the Southside Jazz Quartet, who will be joined by Richmond guitarist Morgan Burrs, and Greg Robey '13, trombonist and band director at Prince Edward County Middle School.
