Environmental Issues Instruction (eii) Eii is a professional development program designed to prepare educators in environmental issues instruction for Pre-K-14.

Sponsored by EPA, REAP-CEP, and Upper Iowa University. eii is a graduate level in-service program for teachers designed to prepare them to teach environmental issues to students K-14 supported by REAP-CEP and Upper Iowa University. eii is:

Experiential teaching and learning
A model of thematic instruction
Teaching ecological concepts by integratin

g disciplines
An analysis of issues
Responsible environmental action
Development of teacher/leaders
Aligned with the Iowa Core Essential Skills and Concepts

Environmental Issues Instruction and Upper Iowa University will offer a 2-credit graduate or undergraduate course, Learning and Living in a Changing Climate at West Burlington High School on October 24, 2026, from 8:00-4:00. Online components and a 1-hour Zoom session will also be held at a later date. This interdisciplinary hands-on college credit course spans all levels and content areas, PreK-14. The course is free to educators and includes a plethora of teaching materials and sub-grants for school projects.
