Alexander Nelson, assistant professor of the University of Arkansas: Computer Science and Computer Engineering department received the CAREER award from the National Science Foundation's Division of Information and Intelligent Systems' Human-Centered Computing program. This is the most prestigious award presented by the foundation to support junior faculty who display the most effective integration of research and education in the context of the U of A's mission.

His project, titled "Enhancing Ambient Capacitive Sensing Through Improved Resolution and Multi-Modal Sensor Fusion," will contribute to the advancement of medical technologies for physical and occupational rehabilitation patients.

Nelson's project will use wearable capacitive sensors to perform real-time motion analysis.

Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas to inform the slaves of their freedom, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

Although it was only recently recognized as a federal holiday by the U.S. government, this has been a day of celebration and reflection in communities worldwide for over 100 years.

Today, we take time to honor the struggles, essential contributions, and diverse experiences of the African American community members.
