A former mentee and master’s student of our program.
The Historic St. James Missionary Baptist Church and the Gaines-Miskell families deeply regret to announce the passing of Minister Adrienne Gaines. Adrienne was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend. She was, indeed, a big sister to us all—someone whose love and presence touched countless lives.
Adrienne fought a long and courageous battle with cancer. Throughout her illness, she embodied unwavering faith, perseverance, and grace. In her trials, she became a living testimony of what it means to trust in God's plan, showing us all what true strength and resilience look like. Never once did she complain; instead, Adrienne greeted us with a smile and words of encouragement, teaching us that joy can be found even in the darkest moments. Her ability to inspire, uplift, and love through adversity is a lesson we will carry with us forever.
Her zeal for Christ shone brightly in her daily walk, and her passion for the Gospel inspired and transformed everyone who encountered her. Her sermons were more than just messages; they were soul-stirring calls to action, leaving us eager to seek deeper understanding and greater faith. She was a beacon of light to the St. James Missionary Baptist Church, the University of Arkansas, and to all who were fortunate enough to cross her path.
Adrienne’s life was a reflection of God's beauty, not only in her strength and service but in the way she loved those around her. Her spirit was one of kindness, compassion, and wisdom, and her legacy will continue to inspire and guide us.
As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the incredible life she lived—a life that glorified God and touched so many. We find comfort in the words of Scripture:
"Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." - Matthew 5:4
"The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." - Psalm 34:18
"Well done, good and faithful servant." - Matthew 25:21
More details regarding her arrangements and how we can support the family will be provided soon. Adrienne Gaines
