Ever thought about going to graduate school? If you haven't we'll give you 20 reasons why you should!
1. Greater earning power. Typically the main reason, a higher degree means a better income if you use it appropriately.
2. Advance in your career. A grad degree can open so many doors for future careers unlike an associate degree or a bachelor's degree.
3. Career change. Do you really want to work in retail for the rest of your life? Or would you rather pursue your true dream?
4. Enhance your education.
5. Get community recognition. If you become a researcher and discover something new, that alone can be rewarding in itself.
6. Get international recognition. For example, if you find the true cure for cancer, you could win so many prizes such as the Nobel Prize!
7. Get research opportunities. Funded research is actually fun when you study something you're truly interested in!
8. Upgrade your education. Science is constantly being advanced day by day so why not stay in the loop of it?
9. Enjoy travel opportunities. There are universities that will pay for your food, lodging, AND travel expenses for you to come visit their school or partake in a conference.
10. Teaching opportunities. While everyone assume that receiving a PhD means you automatically become a professor, it is an option out of many with what you can do with a higher degree. Plus you'll be able to conduct with your own research, hire an assistant, be a judge at conferences, etc.
11. Work on advanced projects. You might create new technology or partake in the help of advancing technology.
12. Access to advanced equipment and tools. Fairly positive that some experiments can't be run in a garage or a basement without looking like a Breaking Bad scene sooooo actually working in an actual lab might be safer.
13. Higher potential for future promotion. In medicine you can work as a technician or assistant but with a PhD in any type of medicine you can practice efficient medicine for your patients, perform surgeries, prescribe medicine, etc.
14. Not being stuck behind a desk. Explore! Adventure! Moving to a new city to attend that university can open so many new options for you.
15. Employer incentives. For instance, if you plan to work for a company, they can help pay with partial or full tuition fees which is always nice to know.
16. Be part of a chain of knowledge. Knowledge is passed down through so many generations either by mouth or writing and you can aid in furthering that knowledge.
17. Because you want to. THIS, this right here is VERY IMPORTANT. Don't do something if you're not going to be invested into it. Whether you are trying to obtain your master's or doctorate's, you have to be committed to obtaining a higher degree because YOU want to. Not because your parents want to, or your spouse, or your friends, but for YOU.
18. Stand out. By attending grad school and obtaining a higher degree, that alone will make you different. Roughly less than 10% of Americans will attend grad school.
19. Free tuition. FREE TUITION. FREE TUITION FREE TUITION FREE TUITION. Not that I have your attention, you can get free tuition for graduate school depending on your GPA, test scores, CV, letters of recommendation, etc. Some schools can offer you a stipend in exchange of becoming a research assistant OR teaching assistant. Some school's can even waive your tuition expenses so it is VERY possible to attend graduate school while having someone pay YOU to go.
20.Realization of interest. There are those who only see themselves complete their undergrad and never pursue higher education. Then there are those who can only dream of higher education. Not only do you surround yourself with like-minded individuals but you specifically study what you want to study and it makes everything more interesting.
Take these reasons and think heavily upon them. You're smarter than what you say you are and if you have that passion to do better, to be better, take it.
