Meet Joe Fiorenza, a Walton College alumni who graduated in 2026 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Marketing and a minor in Strategy, Entrepreneurship, and Venture Innovation (SEVI). Based in Crystal Lake, Illinois, he is a Sales Development Representative at BrightEdge Technologies, an enterprise SEO and AI search platform helping businesses improve their digital visibility and performance.

📓 How did Walton College prepare you for your career?
Walton gave me both the fundamentals and the reps. Classes taught me how buyers actually think and how to position value, but the real preparation came from project-based courses that put me in front of real businesses and real stakeholders. Not to mention all the real-life expectations that were taught, the little things like how to organize an email inbox or how to express gratitude, even if it may feel uncomfortable. I learned to research deeply, communicate clearly, and back my ideas with evidence. That blend of strategy and ex*****on is exactly what I lean on every day in sales.

🏆 In what ways has your experience at Walton College influenced your career path and the life you are building today?
Walton helped me turn a set of personal values into a professional identity. It showed me that I do my best work in environments that are autonomous, collaborative, and purpose-driven, which is a big part of why I chose to start my career in sales. More than any single skill, Walton gave me a foundation and a standard to build on. The discipline I learned, balancing a rigorous marketing program with social life, training, and faith, is the same discipline I bring to ramping in a high-performance sales role today, and it is the foundation I am building the rest of my life on.

What does someone really mean when they say they’re “likely” to do something?

New research from Andy Brownback at Walton College and his co-authors finds that the answer may differ from what analysts assume. In fact, survey respondents interpreted “unlikely” as more likely than analysts expected and “likely” as less likely than expected.

For organizations that use surveys to understand customers, employees, or the public, the wording behind the data deserves attention, too.

Take a look at what leaders should consider when interpreting stated intentions!

When supply chain disruptions happen, should companies say less or explain more?

New research from Christian Hofer (Sam M. Walton College of Business), Keno Theile and Kai Hoberg (Kuehne Logistics University), and Vinod Singhal (Scheller College of Business at Georgia Tech) suggests transparency matters, but so does demonstrating action.

Companies discussing greater supply chain risk during earnings calls generally experienced more negative stock market reactions. But when leaders also communicated credible efforts to manage or resolve those risks, the negative impact was reduced.

A valuable perspective for supply chain and business leaders communicating with investors during uncertain times.
