Our Full-Time MBA students recently traveled to India for their global immersion trip, where they had the opportunity to visit Walmart Global Tech and Walmart Sourcing.

Reflecting on the experience, these visits offered students a valuable look at how global strategy, technology, supply chain, and sourcing come together to support one of the world’s most complex retail organizations. From conversations with leaders to firsthand exposure to global operations, our students gained meaningful perspective on the skills and mindset needed to lead across markets.

We are grateful to the Walmart Global Tech and Walmart Sourcing teams for welcoming our Full-Time MBA students and creating such an impactful learning experience.

We are excited to spotlight Brianna Swafford, Full-Time MBA Class of 2026, and her externship experience with Land O’Lakes in Bentonville. Brianna began working with the Land O’Lakes retail sales team in December as an MBA intern, supporting the team that works directly with the Walmart account.

Throughout the spring semester, she contributed to a project focused on analyzing sales trends and consumer behavior, developing reports, evaluating customer perception surveys, and presenting actionable insights to help improve sales performance.

Reflecting on the experience, Brianna shared:
“Through this externship, I strengthened my ability to use data to inform decision-making while also becoming more familiar with the dynamics of working within a complex corporate environment. This experience has increased my confidence in applying these skills to future opportunities.”

The Walton MBA externship program gives Full-Time MBA students the opportunity to gain meaningful, hands-on experience with companies in Northwest Arkansas while completing their degree. These experiences help students apply classroom learning to real business challenges, build professional relationships, and contribute to organizations in the region.

We are grateful to Land O’Lakes for investing in Walton MBA talent and proud of Brianna for the impact she is making through this opportunity.

The Walton MBA Alumni Advisory Board has completed a $50,000 fundraising campaign to endow a scholarship supporting Full-Time MBA and Executive MBA students.

The Dr. Joseph Jensen MBA Alumni Memorial Award honors the legacy of Dr. Jensen (MBA ’12), a founding member of the MBA Alumni Advisory Board who dedicated his life to helping others and serving his community.

This permanently endowed fund will provide $2,000 annually to MBA students who demonstrate resiliency, academic excellence, financial need, and the ability to overcome challenges. Thanks to the generosity of alumni and friends, this award will continue to support and inspire Walton MBA students for generations to come.

The MBA Alumni Scholarship Committee is continuing to grow the endowment to increase its impact. Gifts of any size, starting at $25, can help transform lives and carry forward Dr. Jensen’s legacy of service.

We are grateful to every alum, donor, and committee member who helped make this meaningful initiative possible.

Artificial intelligence is changing the way leaders think, work, and make decisions.

This month, our Executive MBA students spent part of their Saturday in AI for Business Leaders, a course taught by Professor Bill Akins and offered as part of the curriculum for both the Full-Time MBA and Executive MBA programs.

The course is designed to help students move beyond theory and explore practical ways AI can be applied in real business settings. Students examine how AI can support stronger decision-making, streamline operations, enhance workforce capabilities, and drive innovation across organizations. The course also emphasizes responsible adoption, including AI ethics, governance, risk management, and the importance of protecting sensitive business information.

In a rapidly evolving business environment, leaders must be able to recognize the potential of emerging technologies and make informed decisions about how to implement them strategically and responsibly. AI for Business Leaders helps prepare Walton MBA students to approach artificial intelligence as a tool for solving real business challenges and creating meaningful impact.

We are grateful for faculty like Bill who help our MBA students build the tools, confidence, and strategic mindset needed to lead effectively in today's business landscape.
