Fayetteville State University Receives $2 Million Award to Advance its Summer School Completion Assistance Goals

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) recently announced that Fayetteville State University (FSU) is one of only eight historically Black colleges and universities selected to receive $2 million through its Project HBCU Capacity Building initiative, funded by the Lily Endowment.

Aria Freeman, Founder & CEO of Fluent Insurance and the Broadwell College of Business and Economics, has been accepted into the highly competitive So Ambitious Pre-Accelerator—a partnership between Black Ambition and ACT House that supports emerging entrepreneurs from HBCUs.

This achievement is particularly meaningful for Freeman, who previously applied to the program with a different business venture that ultimately did not succeed. Rather than being discouraged, she embraced the experience, pivoted, and built a new company centered around a mission she’s truly passionate about.

Her acceptance is more than a milestone—it’s a powerful reminder of the value of perseverance, learning through failure, and the importance of mentorship. Freeman credits a pivotal conversation with Enitan Bereola, II at the HBCU Empowerment Summit in Washington, DC for inspiring her to reapply. We are proud to celebrate Aria's continued growth as a changemaker and entrepreneur!
