Great to see Dr. Kevin Hall named the February 2026 Cordes Chair at the University of Arkansas. Kevin has spent decades investing in civil engineering students and the future of the profession. Well deserved recognition for a leader who has shaped the program and the people in it.

Hall is a University Professor of civil engineering and serves as associate dean for academics in the College of Engineering. He joined the U of A civil engineering faculty in 1993.

“Forever chemicals” are tough to track and even tougher to clean up; but new research from the University of Arkansas is helping change that. Civil engineering researchers are taking a closer look at how PFAS behave in water, using new tools and data to improve cleanup strategies at contaminated sites. It’s an important step toward protecting water resources and public health.

A new Department of Defense funded research project led by Lei Guo, assistant professor of civil engineering at the University of Arkansas, is tackling one of the most elusive aspects of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS.
