Hey fellow ROCK Camp Service family. I wanted to share this video with you all. Last Week Tonight with Jon Oliver featured the U of A's School of Law and their study, "Food Recovery: A Legal Guide." I've pasted the link below.

These are the kinds of things we can do at the U of A. We are relevant and cool enough to get on late night comedy.

Producers, sellers, and consumers waste tons of food. John Oliver discusses the shocking amount of food we don’t eat. Connect with Last Week Tonight online.....

Do you want to help give back to the University of Arkansas for years to come? Apply to be on the Class Gift Council. Go to http://classgift.uark.edu/!

The purpose of Class Gift is to educate students about the many ways private gift support enhances the Arkansas experience. Why does philanthropy matter? And why should it start with students?

Hello Everyone!

I hope you're all as excited about Mid-terms as I am!!! crazy how fast the semester is flying by.

Anywho,
Lots of exciting things are happening in October and I just you all should know about them.

1. Make A Difference Day: Saturday, October 20th there are 42 projects this year some are even One Book Once Community related projects! you can go to volunteer.uark.edu to sign up.
* Fun Fact: Our very own Lensey D Watson is a Project Leader
this year : D

2. Flash Mob event!!! (you don't want to miss this one)
As part of the One Book One Community event, the Center for Community Engagement is raising awareness about the reality of poverty in Arkansas and the United States.

We have 200 t-shirts with poverty statistics, so we need 200 students to participate in a mobile awareness campaign on Tuesday, October 23. Participants will meet at 7:30 a.m. at the fountain in the Union mall to receive their t-shirts. A group photo will be taken of all participants at 7:45 a.m., and then everyone will disperse and wear their shirts around campus throughout the day. Donuts will be provided by Teach for America.

Please let us know if you would like to participate! We ask volunteers to arrive in a long sleeved bright colored shirt so that the t-shirts can be worn on top.

Space is limited and it is first come first serve, so please RSVP to [email protected] to reserve your spot.

I contacted Holly, our Hands On Mississippi contact for camp, to see how they are doing in the aftermath of Hurricane Isaac. She informed me the flooding is significant, but the damage is not as bad as Katrina. Once the damage has been assessed, the area may need volunteers, but no one should go until they are requested. I will keep you posted if I hear more!
