Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences - University of Arkansas Faculty! Consider applying for the Cambridge Faculty Fellowships!

One each will be awarded for the 2027-28 academic year for Wolfson College and Lucy Cavendish College. Competition for the Wolfson College Fellowship and the Lucy Cavendish College Fellowship is open to all full-time, tenured or tenure-track Fulbright College faculty members who possess strong research/creative scholarly records. The recipients will spend the academic year in residence at Wolfson College or Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge University and are expected to participate fully in college life, which may include academic engagement with students or fellow scholars and presentations of research and/or creative works. The fellows will receive their full academic year salary from the University of Arkansas and up to $1,500 for shipping and travel costs (for the faculty member only) from Fulbright College.

The fellowships are intended to support the research or creative activity of Fulbright College faculty. Applicants must establish and confirm an academic affiliation with a Cambridge University academic department. Faculty should submit proposals that clearly indicate whether they are applying for the Wolfson or Cavendish fellowship to their departmental chairs for evaluation. Faculty are advised to do some in-depth research into the history and mission of each college to determine which would be the best fit for their Cambridge fellowship experience.

The chair will forward an electronic copy of the chair letter of support and the faculty member’s full fellowship proposal to Donna Draper [email protected] by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2026. The following guidelines shall be used in preparing proposals for the Wolfson and Lucy Cavendish Faculty Fellowships:1.Include a cover page with name and rank of applicant, applicant’s department, and title of proposal.2.Provide a general description of the project as well as the specific program of research or creativeactivity to be undertaken during the fellowship period. The narrative, not to exceed six, double-spacedpages, should be written for an interdisciplinary committee. The narrative should also indicate how thefaculty member plans to participate in College life (specific to Wolfson College or specific to LucyCavendish College) during the fellowship period.3.Append a brief bibliography of materials and publications relative to the research project.4.Enclose a current, complete professional résumé or CV.5.Include proof of an established academic affiliation with a Cambridge University department (in theform of a letter or email correspondence).

Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences - University of Arkansas faculty!

Summer Research Stipends were established to help faculty members of the College conduct research or pursue creative scholarly activities. Curriculum revision or course development is not the purposeof these awards. Top priority will be given to proposals for completion of a project of national orinternational significance, or that will serve as the basis for securing external funding. Preference willbe given to proposals from faculty members whose research is at a critical developmental stage and/orif there is evidence of sustained effort in developing a scholarly program. Four stipends will beawarded to tenured or tenure-track faculty @ $5,000 each. Up to two separate stipends may beawarded to non-tenure track professorial-ranked faculty @ $5,000 each.

GUIDELINES FOR PREPARING PROPOSALSA.Each proposal must have a cover page, consisting of name, rank, department, proposal title, and “2027 Summer Research Stipend.”B.A recommendation from the departmental chair. The chair’s letter of recommendation is of critical importance in understanding the significance of the proposal.C.Project Description. Provide a project description that is written for an interdisciplinary committee. The narrative, not to exceed six double-spaced pages, should include the following:1.Description of general research/creative scholarly project including scope, objectives, methods, and progress to date.2.Specific research or creative activity planned for stipend period (procedures and relationship to overall project).3.Significance of proposed research/creative scholarly work.D.If previously funded for a Summer Research Stipend, include copy of final report that articulated what was accomplished during that grant period (similar to OCDA reporting).E.BibliographyA one-page bibliography should be included for research proposals.F.Current professional résumé or CV.

The chair or chair’s designee will need to forward (preferably) one single electronic .pdf copy of the entire proposal package (all items described in Guidelines for Preparing Proposals) to: Donna Draper [email protected] by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2026. If these materials cannot be combined into a single .pdf, then all components still must be submitted as .pdfs. Please do *not* submit hard-copy proposals to the Dean’s Office.

Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences - University of Arkansas graduate students! Proposals are now being solicited for the ARSC Dissertation Research Awards.

The University funding available will provide up to $8,000 each (depending on individual needs) for successful proposals to fund travel and lodging at research libraries or equivalent within the United States or foreign countries.All doctoral candidates at the dissertation stage in Fulbright College (only) programs are eligible to apply. As mentioned above, awards will be made to those traveling to research libraries or equivalent (laboratories, stations, etc.) to carry out dissertation research.

Applications shall consist of a brief narrative proposal (not more than 5 double-spaced pages), a one- page budget summary, and a current résumé. The narrative should outline the project and speak to the anticipated benefits toward completion of the dissertation. Eligibility will also require a letter of support from the department chair and the dissertation advisor.

The department chair will need to forward an electronic copy of all applicable proposal materials compiled into one single .pdf to Donna Draper at [email protected] by 5:00 p.m. Friday, November 6, 2026. Recipients must submit a report summarizing accomplishments under the award within sixty days of completion of travel to Donna Draper at [email protected].

Since 2021, the University of Arkansas has been part of the Center for Renaissance Studies Consortium promoted by the Newberry Library in Chicago, which is free to the public. Being a member of this consortium of universities brings many benefits.
--Graduate students can apply for dissertation and graduate seminars, research methods workshops, work-in-progress colloquia, reading groups, and publication and professional development workshops. We highly recommend the annual Multidisciplinary Graduate Conference, which is the perfect venue to share preliminary research on dissertations or articles. It will take place in January 2027, and proposals are due on October 15.
--Faculty and graduate students have the opportunity to compete for short-term fellowships and could benefit from partnerships with the Folger Library in Washington DC and the École Nationale des Chartes in Paris.
Instructors and faculty members can request virtual visits to their classes by staff members of the Center for Renaissance Studies, either pre-recorded or on Zoom with a presentation based on digital images. For more information on this, please contact Dr. Fletcher at [email protected] at least one month before.

--Graduate students, undergraduate students, and faculty members (any rank) can apply for funds to visit the Newberry Library and do research there or to participate in any of the programs, events, and lectures that the library organizes in person.
